Einer der bekanntesten heimischen Vögel ist der Weißstorch, der mit seinem weißen Gefieder mit schwarzen Schwungfedern und seinem roten Schnabel auffällig gefärbt ist. Er hat weltweit eine hohe Symbolkraft und gilt unter anderem als Glücksbote oder überbringt als Fruchtbarkeitssymbol sogar die Babys. Das laute charakteristische Klappern des Schabels, das der Weißstorch zur Kommunikation verwendet, hat ihm im Volksmund den Namen „Klapperstorch“ eingebracht.
